IT'S OFFICIAL: MORE WATER COMING FOR POPULAR DURHAM FAIR

HARTFORD - Governor M. Jodi Rell signed into law Thursday a bill championed by state Rep. Raymond Kalinowski (R-Durham) and Sen. Ed Meyer (D-Guilford) that will provide The Durham Fair with the ability to withdraw up to 100,000 gallons of water per day every year for three days without the typically required water diversion permit and hydrogeological study. The new act will save Durham residents approximately $200,000 for the cost of such a study and permit, and will allow the largest agricultural fair in Connecticut - and the largest fair in North America without a paid manager or staff - to meet all its water needs. Approximately 240,000 people attended The Durham Fair in 2007.

Rep. Kalinowski & Senator Meyer Obtain Water Diversion Measure for Durham Fair

HARTFORD- State Representative Ray Kalinowski (R-100) and State Senator Edward Meyer (D-12) successfully ushered through a measure in the final hours of the 2008 session of the General Assembly that allows the Town of Durham to withdraw up to one hundred thousand gallons of water per day for three consecutive days per year without the water diversion permit that is otherwise required. The bill will allow the water to be drawn during the popular Durham Fair, saving the town the great expense associated with providing water for the event.

Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced that $13,200 for a study of the Durham Center Water System gained approval when the state Bond Commission met on March 28. The funds will be used to perform a Ground Water Under Direct Influence Study of the Durham Center Water System. The funds are being made available through the Connecticut Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP). STEAP provides financial assistance for projects that encourage economic development and preserve the character of the state's less populated towns.

Kalinowski Announces Grant for Durham

HARTFORD- State Representative Ray Kalinowski (R-Durham) today announced that the state's Office of Policy and Management has approved a grant for the Durham Public Library in the amount of $3,000. The grant funds will be used to assist with making a survey of historical Durham homes available online.

Kalinowski Announces Middlefield Grant Through Small Cities Program

HARTFORD - State Representative Ray Kalinowski (R-100) today announced that the town of Middlefield has received funding through the federal Small Cities Community Development Block Grant. Middlefield has been awarded $300,000 to continue its housing rehabilitation program. The town is to provide deferred payment loans to income-eligible homeowners and plans to rehabilitate 10-15 units by correcting code-related deficiencies.

Funds will pay for the repairs to the building's exterior, new windows, paving the parking lot, installation of air conditioning, electrical upgrades, and renovating the senior center kitchen.
